The Lessons Learned and Best Practices Process is the Institutional mechanism to facilitate and promote identification and communication of lessons learned and best practices across the laboratory and Department of Energy (DOE) complex.
Based on operating experiences from the Federal Government, industry, and LBNL’s operating experience, Lessons Learned and Best Practices Briefings are developed and disseminated to applicable Laboratory personnel and organizations. The LLBP policy in the RPM can be found here.
The Lessons Learned/Best Practices Database is an online tool that may be used by any LBNL employee to document, route for review and approval, and disseminate internal or external Lessons Learned or Best Practices to specified target audiences. Additionally, this database which is accessible from anywhere in the world enables LBNL employees to search for Lessons Learned or Best Practices for general information, work planning, or trend and analysis purposes. Also, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) may request for any lessons learned or best practice briefing in the institutional database to be linked to a Work Planning and Control (WPC) Hazard in Activity Manager. This database is designed with extensive reporting capabilities so that the data captured in the database may be used to gauge the effectiveness of the program.
The DOE OPEXShare database is the central, web-based collection point for corporate operating experience lessons learned and best practices from across the DOE complex. DOE OPEXShare is a collaborative platform that is available to government and private users. By sharing lessons learned and best practices from work operations and project management, DOE OPEXShare subscribers could prevent adverse events and improve processes and performance. DOE OPEXShare replaces the DOE Corporate Lessons Learned database.
